Assessment process FOR CURRENT & NEW PLAYERS

Player Assessment Process

Richmond United Soccer Club (RUSC) will no longer be holding formal “tryouts/evaluations” for our Competitive Program Stream (Metro, Div 1 and Div 2).

Why?

  1. We promote a Player First Approach
  2. To support Canada Soccer’s Long-Term Player Player Development principles
  3. To reduce player stress and anxiety
  4. RUSC Technical Staff are constantly monitoring and evaluating players within our environment throughout the season

Process

For Existing RUSC Players

  1. Player registers for their preferred stream (recreational or competitive)

  2. Once registration closes, players are placed on teams based on performance and commitment from previous season(s) by RUSC Technical Staff. If required, RUSC Technical Staff may consult with Club Coaches to aid in their decision making.

  • U11-12 teams will be created in line with Canada Soccer philosophy. Teams will be structured and tiered and we will utilize a fluid roster approach which will be evaluated and adjusted as required based on what is best for the individual player at the time, the learning objectives and desired outcomes for individual growth and development.

  • Depending on the number of players and other factors, U13 and up will be balanced or tiered.

For New or Interested Players to RUSC

  1. Please email info@richmondunitedsoccer.ca if you are interested in joining our development program/competitive stream.
  2. The assessment period for players who are new to our Club is February 21st to March 11th as team selections will happen shortly after.
  3. For players that have not played with the Club previously and want to register, the following steps will take place:
  • U10-12 players will be placed on a team to start the season, however may be moved onto a different team if significant imbalances occur

  • U13 and up players will join 2-4 training sessions with the appropriate team/level of play to establish best fit and suitability for the players overall growth and development

Placement

  1. Once a player is offered or assigned a team/level of play, the individual has 72 hours to accept the offer by replying to the offer/placement email.

  2. If a player does not reply within the 72 hours, the Club will place the player on a team to start the season and re-evaluate the player's placement at a later date.

  3. It is possible that certain factors/considerations result in the club creating a mixed age group/team. This will only be considered if RUSC Technical Staff believe this is in the best interest of the player(s)

To help facilitate this assessment process, the RUSC will provide best efforts to have complete age groups train at the same time and location to facilitate a flud roster process for consistent and sustained evaluations. RUSC is committed to creating an inclusive environment that provides opportunities for all players to continue playing soccer while supporting each player's individual growth, development and enjoyment of the game.
